N ov 2 00 2 NEW TECHNIQUES FOR ANALYSING AXISYMMETRIC GRAVITATIONAL SYSTEMS . 1 VACUUM FIELDS

چکیده
A new framework for analysing the gravitational fields in a stationary, axisymmetric configuration is introduced. The method is used to construct a complete set of field equations for the vacuum region outside a rotating source. These equations are underdetermined. Restricting the Weyl tensor to type D produces a set of equations which can be solved, and a range of new techniques are introduced to simplify the problem. Imposing the further condition that the solution is asymptotically flat yields the Kerr solution uniquely. The implications of this result for the no-hair theorem are discussed. The techniques developed here have many other applications, which are described in the conclusions.

The evolution of cosmological large-scale perturbations is described in terms of the concordant model based on the recent discovery of cosmic vacuum. It is demonstrated that the process is robustly controlled by a few epoch-independent physical parameters. The parameters guarantee that the initially weak perturbations become nonlinear before (but near) the termination of gravitational instabili...

We discuss the role of gravitational excitons/radions in different cosmological scenarios. Gravitational excitons are massive moduli fields which describe conformal excitations of the internal spaces and which, due to their Planck-scale suppressed coupling to matter fields, are WIMPs. It is demonstrated that, depending on the concrete scenario, observational cosmological data set strong restric...

We consider cosmological implications of the formula for the dark energy density derived by Gurzadyan and Xue [1] which predicts a value fitting the obervational one. Cosmological models with varying by time physical constants, namely, speed of light and gravitational constant and/or their combinations, are considered. In one of the models, for example, vacuum energy density induces effective n...

Non-vacuum exact gravitational waves invariant for a non Abelian two-dimensional Lie algebra generated by two Killing fields whose commutator is of light type, are described. The polarization of these waves, already known from previous works, is related to their natural sources consisting of cosmic strings and γ-ray bursts. Non vacuum exact gravitational waves admitting only one Killing field o...
